Volunteering is the best way to get to know Tanzanian culture and a make personal difference to the community.
Tanzania is a great country but it needs all the volunteers it can get and Kiswila welcomes foreigners to volunteer at our schools and interact with our students, exposing them to different cultures and languages.
In particular we are seeking English-speaking volunteers to teach or tutor our students as well as sport enthusiasts who might be able to conduct dynamic and fun outdoor activities in English.
No teaching degree is required by our volunteer teachers, you won’t be responsible for entire curriculums, just your personal approach to teaching. The students will reward you with their willingness to learn and their infectious smiles.
To volunteer in Tanzania it is critical you obtain the necessary visa and permissions. You will need to obtain both a tourist visa and a Business Visa.
Tourist visa - a tourist visa is required by anyone entering Tanzania regardless and is payable in USD cash upon arrival – generally $50 for a one-off visa or $100 for a multiple entry visa. More official information can be found here.
Business Visa - to volunteer legally for up to three months in Tanzania, you need to obtain a Business Visa in addition to the above visa. This can be obtained at specified entry points such the Immigration Headquarters Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar Immigration Head Office or Regional Immigration Office, Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA), Amani Abeid Karume International Airport (AAKIA), Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA), Namanga, Horohoro, Sirari, Mutukula and Tunduma. At the entry point the applicant declares the agency they are working for and the nature of their work/mission and pays $200 for a validity of three months. We are able to provide a letter of invitation to the Immigration Office in Tanzania prior to your visit, to make for a seamless entry.
The Tanzanian volunteer permit laws and costs are subject to frequent change so we suggest you always contact the Tanzanian embassy in your country to confirm the requirements or if unsure.
Kiswila is happy to welcome its volunteers among its facilities or to arrange volunteer work with one of the many NGOs the company is in contact with. Kiswila can assist its volunteers in arranging visas, transportation, accomodations and why not.... a visit to a safari!
